Voice and Duty
Voice and Duty: A note from our CEO.
There are crossroads in all of our lives that drive us to action. I write this, hopeful that everyone reading it feels that today is such a crossroads in their lives. Play-it Health’s position has always and will always be to support diversity and inclusion in our daily lives and in the workplace. At this point in our history, it is unequivocally time to lend our eyes, ears and hearts to the Black Lives Matter movement.
We are waking up to a world embroiled in a series of crises. Some are new; some are not, but the combination that we see today makes these crises different. The susceptibility of America to racism, to corruption, to autocracy, to murder at the hands of those that should have been protecting us has been laid bare and placed for all to see and hear in a way that has resonated like never before. George Floyd’s desperate, heart-wrenching plea for life has been captured and heard around the world, and the world is responding in a way most have not seen in our lifetimes. Our struggles are mirrored around the world, but this unique convergence of events has set the stage for potential unity that could and should finally allow lasting progress to be made. We all have a duty to shape that progress.
In the world of healthcare, Covid-19 has once again exposed the vulnerability of the African American population. US Data clearly shows that the African American and Hispanic communities are being hit the hardest in terms of morbidity and mortality. It is time for this to change as opposed to being accepted. It is time for all lives to put their heads together to solve the problem. Uniquely, in this circumstance, it should be clear to all that none of us are safe until we take care of all of our fellow human beings, not just those with the same skin color. So if we are unable to move towards equity or equality forward under the cloak of basic human decency, maybe we will be able to leverage the preservation of self interest to move the needle forward. The irony is huge, but real.
Almost all of us have been given the opportunity and privilege to have a voice. I am calling on every individual to enter the battle for black lives, for civil rights, for human rights today. Let’s fulfill our duty and create meaningful dialogue and action, with our teams, our families, and our communities.
