The available data shows that the wearing of a cloth mask, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) can help reduce the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the causative agent of COVID-19. Specifically, it can reduce the spread of the virus from asymptomic, infected people. However, the wearing of such a mask does not guarantee that the wearer will not get infected while wearing the mask, nor does it guarantee absolute protection for those surrounding you. Other measures, including maintaining a 6 foot distance and frequent hand washing, remain necessary.
